You are Unique (in all the good ways!)

For awhile now I’ve been looking around at the unique people in my life. Some I know, some I simply observe. These people are pretty amazing. They have skills many don’t possess because while each of us is unique, a greater emphasis is put on their uniqueness. There’s a boy at my church who is super motivated. He is always volunteering and looking for more ways to help. People could look at his intensity and perhaps get frustrated, but I see a willing soul who gets the vision of giving to others. While I don’t know him or his parents … Continue reading

Tie Your Shoes

When I started writing on here, one of my goals was to be transparent about my life. I write here whenever I am inspired and can share it. Over the winter I didn’t post much because I was going through a deep refining time that was extremely personal. My inspirations are written down on numerous pieces of paper and journals (yes, I finished one journal and had to start writing in another) that perhaps will be shared in some manner in the future. Today, I wanted to share with you one area of my life that you wouldn’t see by … Continue reading

Full-time Mom…HELP!

Today is a big day for me.  A day I’ve dreamed of over the years, but never thought it would come.  Today I am a full-time stay-at-home mom and to be very honest I’m a bit freaked out by it!  Ok…I was a stay-at-home mom this weekend too, but today it just seems more real.  We celebrated the end of school a lot this weekend with perhaps some of the most rookie mistakes such as staying up until 11pm, drinking soda, and eating cake at each grad party.  It’s time to start for real! Over the 9 years of being … Continue reading

Have You Found Your Best Shade?

My husband and I have had a lot of hard conversations lately.  We have a son getting ready to go into 4th grade next year.  It seems like that is a big step for him so we are working to get him prepared.  Our son, Mr. L, has also had some rough conversations with us lately.  The one that stands out to me the most is that he feels different from everyone else in his world. These days different is praised especially when it comes to being the real you.  However, in a school setting different = defective.  I HATE … Continue reading

Boy+Sensory+Dentist=Tired Mom

I’m sure the dental hygienist wondered why I was neglecting to bring my son in for his yearly visits to the dentist.  She may think me lazy, overworked, underinsured, or whatever…and though each of those may have played a part in my decision it really all comes down to something much greater. My oldest FEELS everything.  This isn’t just an oral thing as he is energized by sound, hindered by bright lights, and will not put new things in his mouth.  But yesterday at the dentist he got to experience all those things…together.  Really, let’s think about this.  The loud … Continue reading

Strength: Ideation (Creative)

At our house, we concentrate on and talk about our strengths.  One of Mr. L’s strengths is his creative mind.  While at the dentist office today (the visit deserves it’s own post!) the dentist commented on Mr. L’s creative imagination.  I mean…that’s saying a lot since the boy is sitting in a sterile room with very little to work with! He never ceases to amaze me.  Truly.  We don’t tend to have any “I’m bored!” time at our house.  We have far too much to discover and create.  Here’s a picture Mr. L created at school a month ago. Now … Continue reading
